Background

The REACH Project  aims to evaluate the impact of a new ‘bundle’ approach to hospital cleaning on the transmission of healthcare associated infections (HAIs). The cleaning bundle intervention emphasises support, training and feedback for environmental services staff and will be implemented in 2015-2016 as part of a stepped-wedge randomised controlled trial in 11 major hospitals around Australia.  Data collection and analysis will be completed in 2017. Key outcome measures will include the numbers of HAIs in each trial site and the incremental cost-effectiveness ratio of implementing the cleaning bundle intervention.

The REACH Project is an NHMRC Partnership grant (GNT1076006), led by QUT and The Wesley-St. Andrew’s Research Institute (WSARI), in collaboration with industry, policy and professional partners.
