Peter Lazzarini
Conjoint Research Fellow – QUT and Queensland Health
Pete is a researcher in diabetes foot disease with AusHSI and Metro North Hospital and Health Service, with a career goal of ending diabetes amputations within a generation. His background as a clinical podiatrist led to his significant interest in improving the lives and limbs of people with diabetes foot disease. Pete is now a globally-recognised diabetes foot disease researcher serving on many international committees, including Secretary International Diabetic Foot Offloading Guidelines and Immediate Past Chair Diabetes Feet Australia.
Pete leads a team of PhD students at AusHSI that is producing paradigm-changing new knowledge and health impacts in three main diabetes foot disease areas: developing novel foot treatments, identifying key risk factors, and quantifying disease burdens. His team’s vision is to create transformative new knowledge on the patient, treatment, and service factors that improve foot disease outcomes and compel clinicians, researchers, and policy-makers to reduce the significant diabetes burdens faced by patients and nations.
